Useful Information

What is the minimum age?

6 - right now, we can't take anyone under the age of 6.

What happens if I can’t keep up?

Go at your own pace. You don't need to compete with the other students over who progresses faster. Taekwondo is a solo sport. Take your time and learn well. We'll never set you up to fail... if you're not ready to move on to the next rank, we wont test you.

How often do you test?

It depends on the rank. White belt to yellow belt and yellow belt to Orange Belt are roughly three months between tests. Orange belt to green, green to blue, blue to purple, and purple to red are roughly four months between tests. Red to Brown and brown to advance brown are about 5 months between tests. Finally, it takes about 6 months to 1 year to test for 1st Dan.

Each black belt rank takes the number of years for the dan you're testing for; i.e. 1st Dan to 2nd Dan takes 2 years and 2nd Dan to 3rd Dan takes 3 years.

How long does it take to get black belt?

Everyone is different and everyone learns at a different paces. It takes roughly 2.5 years for a really good student to progress through the ranks to black belt (and that means really, really good students). Most often, it takes 3-4 years.

What if I have prior experience?

Credentials are everything. If you trained before and have the certificate of rank from your old system, then we'll usually honor that. If you don't have certificates, then we'll evaluate your skills and knowledge and determine whether to have you start at white belt or advance in rank.
If you're coming from a completely unrelated martial art, such as Judo, Aikido, or Jujitsu, then you'll have to start at white belt.

How much does it cost?

We charge $20/month per student or $50/month for a family of 3 or more students.

Belt tests, uniforms, and sparring equipment are extras that will need to be purchased.
